Performance art, poetry slam, open stage, call it what you will, Matthew Courtney's
Wide Open Cabaret at ABC NO RIO, 156 Rivington NYC, is a little bit more. The stage is
open, there is no sign up list, no curator, no hassles. And amazing things do happen,
from a barrage of disfunctional toy robots evoking hilarious sympathetic reactions from
the audience, to elocution so animated the speaker makes even ancient history engaging,
comic, riviting. Ponder relationships so desperate, they have lifespan of a fly. Beware,
the mouse people. Novels in progress, biochemistry lectures, songs of tribute, mourning,
and joy.
