The Redspot outdoor free for all slide show. Over the course of nearly ten years,
a public art project ran in New York city which enlisted any artist willing to put
their work onto the format of 2X2 acetate slides. These un-censored slide
shows were projected onto buildings in the lower east side of Manhattan
using powerful Hassalblad slide projectors. The shows have become a part of NYC history. The slides still exist, though some of the narrative sequence is missing. What we have started to digitize here is about one fiftieth of the collection, mostly from the Metropolitan Transit Authority performance (somewhat culled for erotic content). Thumbnail versions from an earlier, free show are running lower on this page. Although the Red Spot Outdoor Free For All Slide Show will never run again, we believe that the historic archive can serve as an inspiration for future online art work of similar scope, and is worth digitizing and presenting online for its own sake. In fact, programming to deliver the image archive over the internet in manner consistent with it's original venu has inspired the massive collection at the projection room. We are in the progress of making proposals for funding the project. Your comments or feed back will be extremely important to creating this proposal, so please write, and tell us your impression of the show. bobbi@webbittown.net Webmasters: Feel free to paste the show into your own web page, that is our intention for this project. Just expand the codebase to the fully qualified webbittown path and away you go! And thank Fabio at www.anfyteam.com for the nice webcam applet. |

Here is an interesting search engine: Gutterat Just think Good Rat = Gut Te Rat or Gutter Rat or ... well, that is why I pasted the link into my page.
Carol got a Logitech QuickCam with the next DSL connection. It does not appear to have a
webcam uplink program she likes, it only goes to one IP. So I did some searching on how to
change this. So far, I found
logitech developers site
lets see if it is any good..
An internal Webbittown discussion relating to delivering the slide show software as a product or service to
artists brought up the following points:
1. We need a simple upload form for a novice user to upload their image archive and create a slide show from it.
2. The sequence of slides needs a reset button. However, this is in conflict with the sense of community we wish
to establish from having all viewers watching the exact same show, as if it were projected onto a public place.
3. It is not clear if viewers or clients will want to place a running slide show on their own web pages, distribute
them like advertising banners, or have them hosted at Webbittown. The concept of diseminating the shows in a manner
similar to advertising banners is not clear.
4. We wish to push the limits of accessibility on the low-speed low-resolution side. A large percentage of the
people we wish to have view these images eschew the latest fastest technology. This has become a priority over
serving very high resolution images at an interesting rate. For instance, the 640X480 full resolution images from
the Asylum show have been moved off webbittown.net in favor of the 400X400 compressed images.
5. Originally the images were to be served from the Webbittown.com server with many giga-bytes of storage space.
This plan must be returned to almost immediatly, as Webbittown.net, which is hosted, is at the limit of its storage
capacity.
6. The historical value of some of our archives does exist, and we can leverage this history by running it side by side with contemporary counterparts. Eddie on Wallstreet / Webbittown, Red Spot / Anna Lascari, Wigstock / ATPH.
