The Beatnik Car Club was in New York City this summer for the East Coast's
first showing of their unique paintings, drawings, photographs and videos of
hot rods, biker chicks and tattoos. Already an underground phenomenon with
the west coast hot rod scene, The Beatnik Car Club is a members only, highly
selective organization whose requirements for entry are rigid: you must be
heavily tattooed, have a passion for 1950s automobiles, and sport a beatnik
style goatee. The limited membership brings together an eclectic array of
characters, many of whom are accomplished artists, tattooists, and auto
pinstripers. In conjunction with the 1st Annual New York Hot Rod &Tattoo
Convention, held at Vanderbilt Hall, 1600 Round Swamp Road, Plainview, Long
Island from August 18-20, the member's art was on display in the gallery
along with the Beatniks themselves, who were on hand to show off their work,
display their cars, discuss hot rod culture, and let the public in on the
world of Koolsville.
